The Silva 16DCL-6400/360 map compass is designed for use with maps in the field, especially for experienced navigators. The plate on which the compass is mounted features a magnifying lens that makes it easier to read fine details on topographic maps. The compass needle is mounted on a sapphire bearing and rotates on a hardened shaft, ensuring stable readings while moving through the terrain. The liquid-filled capsule features permanent north-south markings and a scale for setting declination, allowing you to correct for the difference between magnetic and true north.
The compass base plate features a set of scales adapted for hiking and topographic maps. The arrangement of the orientation lines facilitates aligning the compass parallel to the map grid. The fluorescent markings facilitate use of the device in low-light conditions. The set includes a lanyard for wearing the compass around your neck or attaching it to a hiking backpack. The compass’s construction is resistant to humid environments, allowing it to be used for navigation in the field under changing weather conditions.
