Bed protection — Description

Bed protection is the section for the care of bedridden people – anti-decubitus mattresses and mattress overlays that prevent pressure sores in patients who spend long periods in bed. Pressure sores form from constant pressure on the same parts of the body, so the solution is to redistribute pressure and change it regularly. Alternating-pressure anti-decubitus mattresses consist of air cells and a quiet compressor that alternately inflates and deflates the cells in a 10–12 minute cycle, massaging the skin and improving circulation. They suit patients at medium and high risk of pressure sores. Anti-bedsore mattress overlays are a simpler option with a foam or air-cell structure placed on the existing mattress, suitable for prevention and low-risk patients.
